In February, we brought in approximately 100 pounds of leather scraps that are the byproduct of the boot manufacturing process. In March, we diverted these materials from landfills by getting them into the hands of local artists who can use them! We will continue to receive scraps from manufacturers and get them into the hands of artists and non-profits who will put them to good use.

After working together to create winter holiday-themed decor from used figure skate boots, on December 14, 2024, we held a pop-up fundraiser to benefit the amazing non-profit Figure Skating in Harlem. Attendees of the winter holiday exhibition at the outdoor rink in Cambridge were invited to donate money to Figure Skating in Harlem, an organization that empowers girls and young women through access to figure skating lessons and performance opportunities. Those who donated to FSH received on of our beautiful decorations. We raised $125 in total at our inaugural event!

We also offered our decorations at a local Christmas tree stand, where we raised even more!

Through the fall of 2024, we conducted our inaugural used skate collection drive at three area locations. In less than two months, we collected over 70 units (including pairs of skates, pairs of blades and pairs of boots). The vast majority of what we collected still has useful life remaining. We will be getting 25 pairs of used, high quality figure skates into the hands of Figure Skating in Harlem, who will get these skates into the hands of the girls and young women in their organization. These skates will get back on the ice and stay out of the landfills!
